Background:

The global prevalence of type-2 diabetes is increasing rapidly.
Various novel insulin delivery systems are under development, including insulin pens, pumps, nasal sprays, and oral/rectal formulations.
Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus patients often require insulin for optimal glycaemic control.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the awareness of general practitioners regarding recent advancements in insulin delivery systems.
To understand current insulin prescription patterns among general practitioners.

Main Methods:

A questionnaire was distributed to 48 general practitioners.
Questions covered the frequency of seeing new diabetic patients and knowledge of insulin delivery methods.
Data was collected from participating and non-participating doctors.

Main Results:

A significant portion of general practitioners (46%) were unaware of insulin administration methods beyond traditional syringes and needles.
The majority of clinicians surveyed rarely use insulin (58%).
A substantial number of doctors see fewer than 5 new diabetic patients weekly (65%).

Conclusions:

There is a notable gap in general practitioners' knowledge regarding modern insulin delivery technologies.
The findings suggest a need for continuous professional development and updated diabetes care education for primary care physicians.
Enhanced awareness could lead to improved glycaemic control for patients with type-2 diabetes.
