Background:

  • Dentin conditioning is crucial for effective adhesion of dental restorative materials.
  • Phosphoric acid is a conventional etchant, but alternative agents are explored for improved performance.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) conditioning versus phosphoric acid conditioning of dentin.
  • To evaluate these conditioning methods with two distinct commercial dentin bonding systems: All-Bond 2 and Prime & Bond NT.

Main Methods:

  • Extracted human third molars were used, with paired dentin surfaces prepared.
  • Surfaces were etched with either 32% phosphoric acid (15s) or 24% EDTA (3 min).
  • Bonding was performed using All-Bond 2 or Prime & Bond NT, followed by composite resin application and light curing. Shear bond strength was tested.
