Diagnostic artifacts can mimic cancer, leading to misdiagnosis. Careful morphologic analysis is crucial for accurate identification and to avoid unnecessary treatments for these mimics.

  • Clinical correlation was insufficient to rule out carcinoma.
  • Limited tissue samples precluded ancillary studies.

Implications:

  • Recognizing these specific artifacts is essential for pathologists.
  • Detailed morphologic evaluation prevents diagnostic errors.
  • Avoidance of misdiagnosis ensures appropriate patient management.
