Background:

  • Knee joint synovitis (KJS) is a hallmark of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • Understanding the macroscopic differences in synovial vascularization may elucidate distinct pathogenetic mechanisms.
  • Standard arthroscopy coupled with computerized image analysis offers a novel approach to quantify these vascular features.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the diagnostic utility of arthroscopy with computerized image analysis for assessing knee joint synovitis (KJS).
  • To compare vascular marking (VM) features and scores in PsA and RA patients.
  • To explore the relationship between VM scores and disease activity indices.

Main Methods:

  • Arthroscopy was performed on 39 knees (20 PsA, 19 RA), with videorecordings analyzed by computer image analysis software.
