Postpartum aggression in mice: inhibitory effect of estrogen

The daily administration of estradiol benzoate (EB) to lactating mice that previously exhibited aggression toward a male intruder reduced the amount of time subsequently spent fighting as well as the total number of animals that fought. EB treatment also depressed body weight of the dams and their lactation performance. Daily progesterone treatment only reduced lactation performance.
