Summary

A Persian cat with Aspergillus cystitis recovered after fluconazole treatment. This fungal infection caused urinary issues and kidney problems, but treatment led to a full recovery.

Background:

  • A Persian cat presented with polydipsia, polyuria, constipation, and nasal discharge.
  • The cat had a history of lower urinary tract disease treated ten weeks prior.

Observation:

  • Physical examination revealed the cat was thin, dehydrated, anemic, and azotemic.
  • Urine culture identified Aspergillus species causing cystitis.
  • Serum analysis confirmed antibodies against Aspergillus nidulans.

Findings:

  • Treatment with oral fluconazole (7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours) for 10 weeks was initiated.
  • Azotemia resolved, and kidney concentrating ability was restored.
  • The cat remained healthy with no recurrence of symptoms.
