Area of Science:

  • Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Cervical disk herniation frequently causes radiculalgia.
  • Percutaneous laser disk decompression (PLDD) is an established treatment for bulging or protruding discs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a CT-guided percutaneous laser disk decompression (PLDD) method for cervical disk hernia.
  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of this CT-guided PLDD technique.

Main Methods:

  • Seven patients with cervical disk hernia and radiculalgia underwent PLDD.
  • A laser fiber was inserted into the target disk under CT guidance.
  • A Nd-Yag laser was used for ablation, with CT scans monitoring progress.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • CT-guided needle puncture to the target disk was safely achieved.
  • Laser ablation dosage ranged from 120 to 500 J (average 266 J).
  • All patients achieved a good treatment response based on MacNab criteria, with no observed complications.

Conclusions:

  • CT-guided PLDD is a safe and accurate method for treating cervical disk hernia.
  • PLDD shows significant promise for managing radiculalgia caused by cervical disk herniation.
