Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Oncology
  • Head and Neck Surgery

Background:

  • Peripheral trigeminal schwannomas are rare tumors.
  • Schwannomas typically arise from cranial nerves, but peripheral involvement is less common.

Observation:

  • A case of a trigeminal schwannoma originating from the mandibular nerve (V3) is presented.
  • The tumor occupied the infratemporal and pterygopalatine fossae with minor intracranial extension.

Findings:

  • Complete tumor resection was achieved using a transmaxillary surgical approach.
  • Literature review confirmed the rarity of this specific tumor location.

Implications:

  • This case expands the understanding of trigeminal schwannoma presentation and surgical management.
