Risk of malignancy in thyroid incidentalomas identified by fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography

Thyroid incidentalomas detected via fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scans occur in 2.3% of cases. Nearly half of these incidentalomas require biopsy and may indicate malignancy, necessitating further investigation.

- Standardized uptake values may assist in differentiating between benign and malignant thyroid lesions found on FDG-PET.
