Summary

Neutrophil function in Behçet's disease (BD) was studied. Findings suggest neutrophils are pre-activated in vivo in BD patients, similar to other severe inflammatory conditions.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate neutrophil functions, including oxidative burst and phagocytosis, in BD patients.
  • To analyze surface molecule expression (CD10, CD14, CD16) related to neutrophil activation in BD.

Main Methods:

  • Flow cytometry was employed to assess neutrophil oxidative burst and phagocytic capacity.
  • Expression levels of CD10, CD14, and CD16 on neutrophils were measured in BD patients, inflammatory arthropathy patients, sepsis patients, and healthy controls.

Main Results:

  • Neutrophil oxidative burst was significantly reduced in BD and sepsis patients compared to controls.
