Immune-mediated diabetes (IMD) is linked to defective T cell regulation. This study found reduced natural killer (NK) T cells and impaired cytokine production in IMD patients, suggesting broad T cell defects contribute to islet autoimmunity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the numbers and function of NK T cells and CD4(+) CD25(+) T cells in patients with IMD.
  • To analyze cytokine production profiles in IMD patients to understand the underlying immunopathogenesis.

  • Flow cytometry and semiquantitative RT-PCR were used to quantify NK T cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
