    Paraplegics with neurogenic bladder dysfunction exhibit diminished urinary flow rates and altered flow patterns. These urodynamic changes are linked to recurrent bacteriuria and urinary tract infections in this population.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the urodynamic characteristics of bladder emptying in paraplegics.
    • To correlate urinary flow patterns with the incidence of recurrent bacteriuria.

    • 108 uroflowmetries were conducted on 34 paraplegic patients using a Garrelts and Strandell uroflowmeter.
    • Urodynamic data, specifically urinary flow rates and patterns, were analyzed.

    • Paraplegics demonstrated significantly diminished urinary flow rates compared to healthy individuals.

    • These urodynamic alterations are potential contributing factors to recurrent bacteriuria and urinary infections in paraplegics.
