Biochemical analysis of synovial fluid in horses with navicular disease reveals altered glycosaminoglycans and matrix metalloproteinases. Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) can standardize diagnostic measurements between the navicular bursa and distal interphalangeal joint.
