[Cardiac syndrome X and insulin resistance]
1Department of Cardiology, The First Hospital, Zhejiang Medical University, Hangzhou 310003.
Objective:
To determine whether there is insulin resistance in patients with syndrome X.
Methods:
By using oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), plasma glucose and insulin levels, and insulin sensitivity index (ISI) were measured in 11 patients with syndrome X and in 10 sex and age matched normal subjects as controls.
Results:
The syndrome X group had a higher fasting insulin level and ISI than the control group (P < 0.05). After oral glucose, plasma insulin level and ISI in patients with syndrome X were significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.01).
Conclusion:
In patients with syndrome X there are hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance.
