Squamous cell carcinomas arising from adnexal ductal cysts

Malignant tumors from adnexal cysts are rare. This study identifies human papillomavirus (HPV)-16 in two squamous cell carcinomas arising from adnexal ducts, suggesting a potential link to skin cancer development.

- This is the first report identifying the highly oncogenic HPV-16 subtype in SCCs arising from adnexal ductal structures.

- The findings suggest a potential role for HPV-16 in the development of SCCs originating from adnexal ducts.
- This may provide an explanation for primary cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas lacking epidermal origin.
- Further research into HPV's role in adnexal neoplasms is warranted.
