    Summary

    This study on palmar ridge counts found that both genetics and shared family environment significantly influence these traits. The b-c ridge count exhibited the highest heritability among the analyzed areas.

    • To investigate the inheritance patterns of a-b, b-c, and c-d palmar ridge counts.
    • To differentiate between genetic heritability and common sibling environmental effects.

    • Path analysis of family resemblance was used.
    • Familial correlation data from Pateria ('74) were analyzed.
    • Homogeneity chi-square tests and variance components were calculated.

    • No evidence for sex-linkage or maternal effects was found.
