[Evaluation of the masticatory efficiency of linear occlusal dentures]
1Department of Prosthodontics, Peking University School of Stomatology, Beijing 100081, China.
Objective:
To study how the linear occlusal dentures perform the function with the most restricted occlusal contact areas.
Methods:
A study of masticatory efficiency was made for 33 patients wearing linear occlusal dentures compared with that of 30 patients wearing anatomic occlusal dentures.
Results:
There is no difference between the linear occlusal dentures group and the controlled group when tested by fixing mastication time, while 81.8% of the experimental group with severe RRR, and the controlled group being only 43.3%.
Conclusion:
Linear occlusal dentures work well for edentulous patients, especially for the cases with flat or depressed residual ridges.
