    Summary

    Generalized granuloma annulare, a rare skin condition, presented as papules and plaques in a 55-year-old man. Corticosteroid treatment offered temporary relief, highlighting the chronic nature of this granulomatous skin disease.

    Background:

    • Granuloma annulare is a benign inflammatory skin condition of unknown etiology.
    • Generalized granuloma annulare (GGA) is a rare variant, presenting with widespread lesions.

    Observation:

    • A 55-year-old male presented with a five-year history of generalized granuloma annulare.
    • Lesions included numerous bluish-red to skin-colored papules and annular plaques on the ears, buttocks, and extremities.
    • Histopathology revealed collagen degeneration and a palisading granulomatous infiltrate.

    Findings:

    • Standard treatments like tuberculostatics and antimalarials were ineffective.
    • Systemic corticosteroid therapy (prednisone) led to lesion clearance.
    • Relapse occurred upon discontinuation of prednisone, indicating a need for long-term management strategies.
