    Background:

    • Penile development involves complex morphological changes during gestation.
    • Ventral penile curvature is a documented phenomenon in fetal development.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence and developmental timeline of ventral penile curvature in male fetuses.
    • To explore the relationship between fetal penile curvature and the condition of chordee in premature infants.

    Main Methods:

    • Gross and microscopic examination of 46 male therapeutic abortion specimens (60-180 mm crown-rump length).
    • Assessment of penile curvature in fetuses across different gestational ages.
    • Serial examination of premature infants to observe chordee progression.

    Main Results:

    • 89% of fetuses exhibited some degree of ventral penile curvature.
    • Curvature was most prominent between 16-20 weeks gestation, persisting in 44% through the sixth lunar month.
    • 31% incidence of chordee observed in premature infants; gradual correction noted in one case over 6 weeks.

    Conclusions:

    • Ventral penile curvature appears to be a normal, transient stage of penile embryogenesis.
    • Chordee without hypospadias might represent a developmental arrest at this earlier stage of penile formation.
