Volunteer activities in developing countries: Haiti, Costa Rica, Uganda, Eritrea, and Guyana

I have volunteered 16 times in 5 different developing countries. Each of these trips have involved my profession as a CRNA. My students have been health care providers of different types from these countries. Fourteen of these trips have been in conjunction with Health Volunteers Overseas. I have taught clinical and didactic anesthesia and helped develop nurse anesthesia programs in Uganda and Guyana. The purpose of this activity has been to increase the quality of health care in these countries by helping to provide safer anesthesia.
