Summary

A patient experienced a severe anaphylactic reaction to abciximab during a cardiac procedure, despite premedication. Prompt and aggressive treatment with multiple medications successfully resolved the life-threatening event.

  • The reaction occurred minutes after administration of abciximab, despite pretreatment with prednisone and diphenhydramine.
  • Symptoms included pruritus, edema, nausea, bradycardia, and shock.

Findings:

  • The patient's anaphylactic reaction was attributed to abciximab.
  • The severity of the reaction necessitated immediate and aggressive medical intervention.
  • Successful management involved a combination of emergency medications.
