Abstract:
Oxygen supplementation of available transport ventilators may become a relevant issue in environments in which pressurized oxygen is not available. Ventilators available for use by U.S. Army personnel in austere locations were compared. The results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of off-the-shelf oxygen generators providing adequate oxygen supplementation with both portable ventilators. Others should be able to use this information for the benefit of their patients in field environments, especially forward surgical teams and those in austere health care locations.
