Summary

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) does not impact lung function. Furthermore, pulmonary function does not affect the lymphatic absorption within the peritoneal cavity in CAPD patients.

Background:

  • Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) involves instilling dialysis solution into the peritoneal cavity.
  • Potential interactions between dialysis solution volume, intraperitoneal pressure, and pulmonary function are not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate whether dialysis solution volumes in CAPD patients affect pulmonary function.
  • To determine if pulmonary volumes influence lymphatic absorption from the peritoneal cavity.

Main Methods:

  • Ten CAPD patients underwent lymphatic absorption measurement, intraperitoneal pressure assessment, and spirometry with a full and empty peritoneal cavity.
  • Measurements included cumulative lymphatic absorption over 4 hours and hydrostatic intraperitoneal pressure.
