    Summary

    This study shows that using a bronchoscope as a pleuroscope for pleural disease diagnosis is safe and effective. It enabled accurate diagnosis of carcinoma in undiagnosed pleural effusion patients.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of a gas-sterilized bronchoscope as a pleuroscope for diagnosing pleural diseases.
    • To assess the safety and efficacy of pleuroscopy via small incision for biopsy and visualization.

    • A gas-sterilized bronchoscope was used as a pleuroscope in 16 patients with undiagnosed pleural disease.
    • Procedures included visual exploration, forceps biopsy, pleural fluid aspiration, and pneumothorax induction.

    • Diagnosis of carcinoma was established in 8 patients with undiagnosed pleural effusion via biopsy.

    • It facilitates visualization and biopsy, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions like carcinoma.
    • The procedure offers a minimally invasive alternative for pleural space exploration.
