Neuroblastoma in the dog.

Summary

This study describes two rare malignant canine tumors originating from peripheral neuronal tissue. Neuroblastoma and ganglioneuroma presented with distinct clinical signs and locations in affected dogs.

Background:

Peripheral neuronal tumors are uncommon in domestic animals.
Understanding their presentation and behavior is crucial for diagnosis and treatment.

Observation:

A mediastinal neuroblastoma was diagnosed in a young Boston Terrier presenting with respiratory distress.
A retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma was identified in a Labrador with hind limb dysfunction.
Both tumors exhibited significant local invasion.

Findings:

The neuroblastoma compressed the lung and invaded the cervical spinal cord.
The ganglioneuroma infiltrated surrounding soft tissues and vertebral bone.
Histopathological confirmation of these distinct tumor types was performed.
