Summary

Radioactive yttrium 90 (Y 90) glass microsphere treatment for liver metastases is a feasible single-session technique. This intrahepatic arterial embolization showed low complications and beneficial effects in patients with nodular, hypervascular tumors.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of intrahepatic arterial embolization using radioactive yttrium 90 (Y 90) glass microspheres for treating hepatic metastases.
  • To assess clinical and imaging outcomes in patients with metastatic liver disease.

  • Phase I/II study involving 37 patients with metastatic liver disease treated between 1986 and 1994.
