Summary

This study documents the first case of vasculitis caused by gemcitabine chemotherapy in a non-small lung cancer patient. Stopping the treatment resolved the symptoms, indicating a direct link between gemcitabine and vasculitis.

Background:

Gemcitabine is a common chemotherapy agent for non-small cell lung cancer.
Drug-induced vasculitis is a rare but serious adverse effect of certain medications.

Observation:

A 45-year-old male with non-small cell lung cancer developed myalgia, limb swelling, and movement impairment after gemcitabine and cisplatin chemotherapy.
Symptoms recurred with the second chemotherapy cycle, accompanied by anemia, elevated ESR, and increased creatinine phosphokinase.

Findings:

Surgical biopsy confirmed leucocytoclastic vasculitis and muscle tissue necrosis.
Discontinuation of gemcitabine chemotherapy led to complete resolution of symptoms.
