- Pediatric Surgery
Background:
- Paranasal sinus mucoceles are uncommon in infants, presenting diagnostic challenges.
- Ethmoidal mucoceles are a specific type requiring careful evaluation.
Observation:
- A case of an 11-year-old patient with an ethmoidal mucocele was analyzed.
- A comprehensive review of published pediatric ethmoidal mucocele cases was conducted.
Findings:
- The study details the etiopathogenesis and clinical presentation of pediatric ethmoidal mucoceles.
- Differential diagnostic aspects in children are compared with adult presentations.
Implications:
- This review aids in understanding the rare occurrence of pediatric paranasal sinus mucoceles.
- It provides insights for improved diagnosis and management strategies in pediatric patients.
Abstract:
The appearance of mucoceles of paranasal sinuses during infancy is very rare. In relation with a patient, 11-year-old, enduring an ethmoidal mucocele treated in our Department we benefit it in order to realize a review of the published cases in medical literature. We also discuss on the etiopathogenesis, clinic and differential diagnostic aspects in pediatric age in comparison of those verified in grown-up.
