Summary

Adjuvant radiotherapy after prostatectomy improved biochemical control in high-risk prostate cancer patients. However, disease-free survival did not significantly differ, necessitating longer follow-up to confirm survival benefits.

Background:

  • Postprostatectomy radiotherapy (RT) is used for high-risk prostate cancer.
  • Patient selection for RT timing and referral is based on urologist discretion.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the biochemical and clinical outcomes of postprostatectomy RT.
  • To compare adjuvant versus therapeutic RT for high-risk prostate cancer.

Main Methods:

  • 66 patients received adjuvant or therapeutic RT after radical prostatectomy.
  • Therapeutic RT was indicated for elevated or rising PSA, or local recurrence.
  • Follow-up duration varied for surgery and RT.

Main Results:

  • At 5 years, overall actuarial biochemical control was 59.7%.
