Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Neurology
  • Psychology

Background:

  • Postejaculatory syndrome, now termed postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS), presents a complex clinical challenge.
  • Limited research exists on the etiology and pathogenesis of this condition, hindering diagnosis and treatment.

Observation:

  • Two male patients experienced a distinct cluster of symptoms immediately following spontaneous ejaculation.
  • Symptoms included severe fatigue, intense warmth, generalized myalgia, and a flu-like state.

Findings:

  • The observed symptoms were debilitating, persisting for 4 to 7 days post-ejaculation.
  • The severity of postorgasmic illness syndrome led patients to avoid sexual activity.

Implications:

  • This case report highlights the need for further research into the underlying causes of POIS.
  • Understanding the etiology and pathogenesis is crucial for developing effective treatments and improving patient outcomes.
