Summary

Bone marrow transplant (BMT) retinopathy, a complication of BMT, typically resolves spontaneously. This case study confirms BMT retinopathy does not progress beyond the ischemic microvascular stage, with complete visual recovery observed.

Background:

  • Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a critical treatment for various hematologic disorders.
  • Bone marrow transplant (BMT) retinopathy is a known complication with a typical recovery period.

Observation:

  • A case of BMT retinopathy was observed in a patient with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • Funduscopic and angiographic findings were analyzed to understand the condition's evolution.

Findings:

  • Complete spontaneous resolution of fundus lesions was noted after two and a half years.
  • Visual acuity fully recovered, supporting the theory of limited progression.

Implications:

  • BMT retinopathy appears to be self-limiting, typically not progressing beyond the ischemic microvascular stage.
