Summary
Cystodefecoperitoneography (CDP) aids in diagnosing genital prolapse, particularly posterior compartment defects. While useful, the radiologic definition of cystocele requires further refinement for clinical application.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Radiology
- Gynecology
Background:
- Genital prolapse affects many women.
- Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment.
Purpose of the Study:
- To prospectively evaluate pre- and postoperative cystodefecoperitoneography (CDP) findings.
- To correlate CDP findings with clinical examinations in patients with genital prolapse.
Main Methods:
- Twenty-five female patients with genital prolapse were studied.
- Standardized questionnaires, clinical exams, and CDP were used pre- and postoperatively.
- CDP involved contrast medium in the rectum, vagina, bladder, small bowel, and peritoneal cavity.
Main Results:
- Preoperative clinical exam diagnosed rectocele (24), cystocele (7), enterocele (2).
- Preoperative CDP diagnosed rectocele (21), cystocele (22), peritoneocele/enterocele (9).
- Postoperative CDP showed rectocele (4), cystocele (24), peritoneocele/enterocele (7).
Conclusions:
- CDP can complement clinical assessment for genital prolapse.
- CDP is particularly useful for detecting posterior compartment defects.
- Further evaluation of the radiologic definition of cystocele is needed.
