Area of Science:

  • Oral pathology
  • Oncology
  • Dermatology

Background:

  • Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) is an aggressive oral potentially malignant disorder.
  • PVL is characterized by resistance to treatment and high rates of recurrence and malignant transformation.

Observation:

  • A case of PVL initially presenting as hyperkeratosis with mild dysplasia is described.
  • The lesion exhibited multifocal development and progression.

Findings:

  • Despite treatment, the PVL progressed to multifocal verrucous carcinoma.
  • This case underscores the aggressive nature and malignant potential of PVL.

Implications:

  • Early and aggressive management strategies may be necessary for PVL.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Further research into PVL pathogenesis and treatment is warranted.
