Supraumbilical laparotomy alters diaphragm function, indicated by increased root mean square (RMS) and decreased median frequency (ME) in surface diaphragmatic electromyogram (EMG) recordings post-surgery. These changes suggest reduced diaphragmatic excitability or central drive.
