  • Data Storage Technologies

Background:

  • The standard point-spread function (PSF) model for optical disk readout channels omits crucial quadratic distortion from photo-detection.
  • Accurate modeling is essential for reliable data retrieval from optical storage media.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce a novel model that incorporates quadratic distortion into optical disk readout channel analysis.
  • To simplify this model for read-only-memory (ROM) disks.
  • To develop an edge-spread function for a nonlinear ROM disk channel model.

Main Methods:

  • Development of a mathematical model to approximate the quadratic component of readout signals.
  • Simplification of the model under the assumption of a ROM disk.
