The patient's experience of self-catheterisation

The use of intermittent self-catheterisation has been found to prevent repeated hospital admissions for urethral stricture. A study investigating patients' experiences of ISC found that they wanted prompt, expert teaching on its use. The introduction of guidelines for the referral of patients for ISC, together with nurse-led clinics and staff education, will help meet patients' needs.
