Summary

Sevoflurane anesthesia reduced capillary filtration, potentially lowering fluid needs during surgery. Propofol did not affect this microvascular parameter, suggesting sevoflurane may be preferred for patients prone to fluid shifts.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the effects of sevoflurane and propofol anesthesia on microvascular parameters.
  • To assess changes in capillary filtration coefficient (CFC) and isovolumetric venous pressure (Pvi) during and after anesthesia.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective randomized trial in 20 female patients undergoing breast surgery.
  • Measured CFC, Pvi, and limb blood flow preoperatively, immediately post-anesthesia, and on postoperative days 1 and 2.
  • Anesthesia maintained with sevoflurane/remifentanil or propofol/remifentanil.
