Endothelin-converting enzyme (ECE) release, linked to tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), is reduced in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. Atherosclerosis may impair this vascular shedding process.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if endothelin-converting enzyme (ECE) shedding is concomitant with tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) release.
  • To determine how atherosclerosis affects ECE release.

  • Studied 14 healthy volunteers and 24 coronary heart disease (CHD) patients.
  • Measured ECE and t-PA release using a 20-minute venous occlusion provocation test.
