[Electrophysiology. New diagnostic study of cardiac arrhythmia]
1Hospital Virgen de la Salud, Instituto de Ciencias Cardiovasculares, Toledo.
Abstract:
An electrophysiological study is a definitive diagnostic method for patients suffering from arrhythmias. Since 1967, when this technique began as a discipline in cardiology, this treatment has been exclusively pharmaceutical, succeeding only in decreasing the frequency and the intensity of the arrhythmias. At the present time, with endocavity stimulation and the possibility of applying radiofrequency ablation to totally eliminate cardiac arrhythmias, at a very low percentage of risk, the medical profession has made an important improvement in the quality of life of patients suffering from arrhythmias, totally eliminating the administration of pharmaceuticals and making it possible to lead a completely normal life, in terms of exercise and diet.
