Abstract:
The respiratory tree is involved in a wide range of pathological conditions. The consequences of these processes vary from negligible to severe airflow obstruction with resultant hypoxia and respiratory failure. Although almost all of the processes described herein are associated with activation of cytokines, ecosanoids, or peptide hormones, detailed descriptions of these interactions are beyond the scope of this article.
