Summary

Leptin directly causes vasodilation in healthy men, increasing forearm blood flow. This vasodilating effect is independent of nitric oxide, suggesting a direct action of leptin on blood vessels.

  • Healthy male participants underwent intra-arterial leptin infusions at varying doses.
  • Forearm blood flow (FBF) and forearm vascular resistance (FVR) were measured using strain-gauge plethysmography.
  • The nitric oxide synthase inhibitor N(G)-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) was used to assess nitric oxide dependency.
