Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • CVT-510 is a selective adenosine A1 receptor agonist.
  • It is under development by CV Therapeutics for cardiac arrhythmias.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of CVT-510.
  • To assess its potential in converting paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) to normal sinus rhythm.

Main Methods:

  • Phase III multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
  • Investigated CVT-510 for PSVT conversion.

Main Results:

  • Trial data on safety and efficacy are pending.
  • Financial analysts projected FDA filing in 2004 and US market launch in 2005.

Conclusions:

  • CVT-510 shows potential for treating supraventricular tachycardias and atrial arrhythmias.
  • Further clinical trial results are necessary to confirm efficacy and safety.
