Roles of international advisors

Consultation, collaboration, and direct services are described and distinguished as three different roles which advisors play. Drawn from the author's field experience, factors affecting the success of each role are presented. Consultation is further classified as expert, resource or process. Certain advisory problems are described: cultural shock and the interpersonal threats of knowledge, position and take-over.
