Background:

  • Diabetic cystoid macular edema (CME) is a common complication of diabetes.
  • Macular edema can significantly impair vision in diabetic patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate visual outcomes after vitrectomy for diabetic cystoid macular edema.
  • To identify factors influencing final visual acuity post-vitrectomy.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 45 eyes from 40 patients undergoing vitrectomy.
  • Assessment of visual acuity and cystoid space size pre- and post-operatively.
  • Follow-up duration of at least 6 months.

Main Results:

  • 51% of eyes showed improvement in visual acuity (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution [logMAR] by ≥0.2).
