Background:

Hemorrhoidectomy is a common surgical procedure.
Minimally invasive techniques aim to reduce postoperative complications.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate postoperative complications following Harmonic Scalpel hemorrhoidectomy.
To identify factors predisposing patients to complications.

Main Methods:

Prospective study of 500 consecutive Harmonic Scalpel hemorrhoidectomies.
Systematic recording of postoperative complications and predisposing factors.

Main Results:

Overall complication rate was 4.8% (24/500 patients).
Hemorrhage occurred in 0.6% (3/500), associated with open technique and Toradol.

Other complications included urinary retention (2%), fissure (1%), and abscess/fistula (0.8%).

Conclusions:

Harmonic Scalpel hemorrhoidectomy demonstrates a favorable safety profile.
