Summary

Genetic variations in the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) did not predict Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) susceptibility or overall fluvoxamine response. However, specific 5-HTTLPR genotypes influenced compulsion scores over time in some OCD patients.

Background:

  • A functional polymorphism in the serotonin transporter gene promoter (5-HTTLPR) has been implicated in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) susceptibility.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between 5-HTTLPR allelic variation and OCD susceptibility.
  • To determine if 5-HTTLPR genotypes influence the therapeutic response to fluvoxamine in OCD patients.

  • Allelic variation in 5-HTTLPR may modulate the response to fluvoxamine specifically concerning compulsive symptoms, particularly in patients without comorbid tic disorders.
