Background:
- Chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC) is a major inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affecting the large intestine.
- Neuronal structures and mast cells are increasingly recognized for their roles in regulating immune responses within IBD.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the presence and distribution of neuronal fibers (NF) and cells containing substance P (SP), tryptase, and serotonin (SER) in the colonic wall of CUC patients in remission.
- To compare these findings with normal colon tissue.
