This study reports a rare maxillary leiomyosarcoma case in an elderly woman, successfully treated with surgery and radiation. The patient showed no recurrence three years post-operation, indicating effective treatment for this rare cancer.

Background:

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor.
Maxillary tumors are uncommon, and leiomyosarcoma of the maxilla is exceptionally rare.

A 71-year-old Japanese woman presented with a rare leiomyosarcoma of the maxilla.
The tumor was treated with surgical resection and 70 Gy external irradiation.

The patient achieved successful treatment with no evidence of recurrence or distant metastasis at 3-year follow-up.
Histogenetic analysis suggests origin from vascular smooth muscle or primitive mesenchymal cells within the maxilla.
