Was Willis right? Thoughts on the interaction of depression and diabetes
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews
|July 12, 2002
Abstract:
Recent studies suggest that depression may be an independent risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes. At a time when this disease is an epidemic, identifying interventions that could prevent or delay the onset of diabetes is a high priority, and treating depression in people predisposed to diabetes could be an effective approach. Future studies should establish a causal relationship between depression and the occurrence of type 2 diabetes, as well as possible mechanisms to explain the relationship, should one be observed.
