Summary

Spinal epidural abscess is a rare but growing concern following epidural steroid injections for back pain. This case shows conservative treatment can effectively resolve the abscess.

Background:

Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is an uncommon infection.
The incidence of SEA may increase due to the rising use of epidural injections for lower back pain management.

Observation:

A case of spinal epidural abscess following an epidural steroid injection is presented.

Findings:

The spinal epidural abscess in this case resolved successfully with conservative medical management.
This suggests that non-surgical approaches can be effective for certain cases of post-procedural SEA.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of vigilance for SEA in patients presenting with back pain after epidural injections.

Conservative management should be considered as a viable treatment option for spinal epidural abscess.

Further research into risk factors and optimal management strategies for SEA post-epidural injection is warranted.
